GREAT POST FROM BEN

I'm putting up a great post from Ben where he chronicles the Scottish trip he and his partner have recently taken.  The photographs are wonderful.  Put on the kettle, make a cuppa, sit down and enjoy!

I took this photograph a few years ago.  That's David fishing in Arnisdale

CHILDREN AND MUSIC LESSONS

Anna at Pleasant View Schoolhouse wrote this great blog on Children and Music Lessons.  Perhaps useful for mums who may be finding it difficult to get their children to do their music practice.

BEDROOM PAINTING

Well, the new bedroom timberwork and painting has been completed.  The quilt on the bed though is still to be finished.  I've been working on this one for years and years.  All the circles, large and small, have been made out of 'scraps' from my material hoard.  Circles are all hand-made and appliqued by hand on to the background.  Now I'm in the process of quilting the three layers together.  Top layer - the circles, middle layer - the batting and bottom layer - the backing of the quilt.  I'm quilting all the seams of the background, the circles themselves and another circle within the circle.  Have decided to really get my head down and get this finished, so the plan is to do a bit each morning.

Have only put up one 'picture' so far, a cross stitch made by Greer.

And especially for those who like reading, I put a few of my very favourite books on the side cupboard specially for the photograph!

Oops!  They're all on top of David's library book!

Remember you can click the photograph to enlarge it!

47 YEARS

Had a lovely day.  He woke me up with a gorgeous plant all potted up in a beautiful ceramic pot.  In the card he had composed a poem.

We went out for lunch to The Two Birds Cafe here in town.

I still love the suit.  It was a dress and coat - mini of course.  But, I love him more, much more!

MORE BEFORE AND AFTERS...

Here you are Greer - the skirting before...and after.

Architraves after...can't find a 'before' but there was nothing around the windows before Daddy put up these architraves.  The windows were just inserted into the frame.

Also, Daddy changed the wardrobe door handles.  They seemed too modern for the room, but we had the problem of them being so large and to replace them would have meant leaving some evidence of the old handles.

Then, he came up with the brilliant idea of putting in the little keyhole to cover the bottom screw holes.  Ain't he clever?

Don't forget you can click on the photograph to see in more detail.

BEFORE AND NEARLY AFTER...

We're redecorating the main bedroom.  Before David replaced the skirtings, there was just a small dowling type edging along the floor.   A similar finish was on the windows and as you can see he has made lovely architraves and a small sill around the windows.  He has also made timber pelmets (still to go up) to go over the blinds.  Ceiling and wall down to the picture rail have been painted in white.   All timber - windows, pelmets, skirting, picture rail and door have been painted in white gloss.

He is now in the process of painting the walls.  We hummed and hawed for ages on the colour and because we have decided to only have the blinds on the windows, thus allowing the stain glass to be seen in all its glory, we finally went for a colour with a bit of green in it.  We just love, love the colour.

Will post picture when all finished.  Probably one more coat to go on walls.

CHRISTMAS?

Emma bought this as a panel and I've made it into a wee Advent quilt wall-hanging for Christmas. Took it to Robyn's on Friday and she filled all the pockets with sweets which have magically disappeared and reappeared in David's office desk!

FIRST POST

First post here at connika.blogspot.com.  Just to get me started tonight, I'm putting up a photograph taken a while back in Arnisdale, Scotland.  Think he could smell the toast!
